Вступив в ряды Оборонительных Сил или варварской армады инопланетных захватчиков, игрок волен выбрать воинскую специальность из пяти классов. К его услугам солидный парк привычных и футуристических средств передвижения - квадроциклов, танков, инопланетных шагающих механизмов для эпических наземных сражений или вертолетов и антигравитационных летательных аппаратов для поддержки с воздуха, а также огромный выбор мобильных оборонительных сооружений и прочих достижений ратного дела будущего. Сражаясь с товарищами или выполняя задания в одиночку, игрок растет в звании, получает новые навыки и особые награды за командную игру.

Особенности игры:

Новый проект на основе движка Doom 3, разработка которого осуществляется при личном участии Джона Кармака.
Использование новаторской технологии Megatexture, которая позволяет детально воспроизводить огромные пространства.
Уникальный мультиплеер: четкое взаимодействие членов команды, выполняющих сложные многоступенчатые задания.
